Situation The Cerberus Group of Companies provide market leading asset management and debt recovery services throughout the UK. They are currently rewriting their CRM system.
Task Lead the development team in developing and testing the new system, using c#, WPF and SQL Services. Working with the product team in writing user stories and acceptance criteria.
Action Documented user stories in Microsoft DevOps, hands-on development of parts of the new system, conducting agile cerimonies including daily stand ups, sprint planning and retrospectives.
Result Development is on-going, most of the user stories have been produced and UAT is scheduled for end of April 2020.
Situation MPP Global delivers a fully integrated cloud SaaS platform to identify, engage and monetise digital audiences, designed for media companies.
Task Responsible for initiating, developing and implementing a range of projects, whilst ensuring excellent communication within the delivery team, across the business and with customers. Agreeing project objectives by engaging key stakeholders. Providing advice on the management of projects making sure high-quality standards are always met. Clearly representing the clients and MPP Global’s interests.
Action Planned and implemented payment solutions to external customers across the globe. Providing leadership and motivation to both internal and external teams. Report progress and deal with risk and issues.
Result Managed multiple projects and teams consisting of developers, testers and implementation consultants. Worked with product owners and development managers to implement new custom functionality such as payment methods and reports, often, resolving resource conflicts with the product roadmap requirements. Situation Procost Solutions was a software company within the Benx Group, the Benx Group of companies provide external wall insulation products and installers. The company had one developer working on a unique application to calculate external wall insulation (EWI) materials, labour and manage the installation project. There were no systems in place for the management of the development, testing, bug tracking etc. The main application was produced in ActionScript using ColdFusion objects to access the SQL database.
Task To formalise the development activity, manage the team, demonstrate to prospective customers, implement and train. Work with the company owners to identify and prioritise changes and gain customers.
Action Set up a quality management system (QMS) and processes to manage the development life cycle. Designed a new platform for the future, to port the application over to a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution. Carried out software demonstrations to potential customers. Designed lesson plans and training for the product.
Result Recruited an additional developer. Guided the product through ten major updates without issue to customers. Implemented the Jira system for Agile development and testing. Designed the move into a SaaS platform starting with implementing a new mobile application which connected to the cloud database using microservices. Hands on development of the Windows Phone version of the application.
Additionally, I was successful in finding work for the team in other companies within the group, providing one company with an ecommerce site for their EWI products and another with mobile and desktop applications to track canvassers.
After my post was made redundant at Microsoft Business Solutions, I set up my own company to develop software and provide Project Management services to other organisations.
I worked on many varied types of projects from HR, Payroll to Bus Lane Enforcement and Instalation of Alley Gates in Liverpool.
I managed web developments in Liverpool Council, a Library Management system in Dorset Council and used car locator web sites in Manheim Retail Services.

Situation PWA Ltd was an independent software supplier of HR and Payroll software solutions to businesses across public, private and NHS organisations (Empower product suit). They were later acquired by Great Plains and subsequently Microsoft.
Task Managed and mentored a team of 4 project managers in the implementation of HR and Payroll products in the northern business region (Coventry to Scotland). The team managed 40 – 50 implementations concurrently varying in size and complexity. Worked with the other Project Managers across the business in setting up and maintaining a Project Management methodology.
Action Personally managed up to 10 concurrent projects with values between £40k and £200k, met with customer stakeholders to produce requirements, designed and developed solutions and produced technical specifications. Planned internal developer, consultant and training resources, liaised with customer stakeholders to plan for the implementation of the new system. Worked with other suppliers on the integration of their systems. Defined and monitored policies and procedures, managed client relationships and acted as escalation point for all projects. Managed project team activities to deliver on agreed targets and budget. Communicated and coordinated day-to-day project activities within the project team and ensured that priorities where developed and known. Worked with account managers on pre-sales and tenders.
Result Successfully implemented systems on-time and to budget to many organisations including Wrexham Council, Skipton Building Society, Scarborough Building Society and Vision Express.
Set up a new development team in a new software company and managed the team of two permanent and three contract developers in the production of a Windows based project costing application.
I joined the Army in 1971 after being made redundant from an apprentice motor mechanic job, I was recruited at the Bradford Army Recruitment Office. My career spanned 22 years starting out as a Data Telegraphist and progressing to Yeoman of Signals.
I started my Open University degree whilst serving in the Army and completed it whilst working at PWA Personnel Systems.
Most of my career with the Royal Corps of Signals was geared towards becoming the best in operational communications. To achieve this, it was necessary to complete several selection exams, interviews and courses. These all culminated in attending a yearlong course at the Royal School of Signals. On completion of the course I was promoted to staff sergeant and made a Yeoman of Signals. The civilian equivalent to this is a BTEC in Telecommunications Engineering.
